Nipsey Hussle’s untimely murder five years ago shook up the Hip-Hop community and is still being felt to this day. His brother, Blacc Sam, recently revealed the struggles they had with finding a venue to host his funeral .

Sam joined BigBoyTV to discuss his late brother and the experience of losing him. As the world knows, his funeral was held at Staples Center in Los Angeles, which is now called Crypto.com Arena. However, that wasn’t where they initially planned to hold the funeral. “We were just going through it,” he said. “Obviously, we gotta get this funeral handled the right way, we were trying to hit churches and you know, Black churches, Black preachers. ‘Nope, nope, nope.’ So, we couldn’t find a venue.”

Big Boy asked if the Black churches and preachers were afraid to be involved, perhaps due to gang affiliations, and Sam did not give a direct reply. He continued, revealing that Karen Civil, LeBron James, and Roc Nation pulled strings to help them secure the Los Angeles Lakers’ stomping grounds. They also planned to drive the hearse throughout all of LA, including every neighborhood regardless of what gang resided there. The police refused to escort them, and Sam claimed they didn’t need one.

Nipsey Hussle’s funeral went smoothly and was a special moment for all in attendance. YG was among the speakers at the funeral and paid respects to his late friend.

“I want to congratulate [Nipsey] for his legacy and everything he did, all the game he gave me, all the people he touched and for the brand he left behind,” he said to the audience. “On behalf of [the] west coast, on behalf of LA, the streets… we love you ni**a, we gone miss you my ni**a, you already know what it is.”

The “Who Do You Love?” rapper claimed that Hussle encouraged him to read books and sent him a heartfelt text message for his birthday months prior to his death. The duo collaborated multiple times on tracks like “Last Time That I Checc’d,” “You Broke,” “FDT,” and “Snitches Ain’t…”
