Zion Barrino, daughter of Fantasia Barrino-Taylor, is celebrating a significant accomplishment, as the 23-year-old announced on Threads that she has reached 60 days of sobriety.

“Today, I celebrate one of the hardest challenges in my life,” she revealed to her followers on Sunday (Aug. 11).

“I was sick for 3 weeks, but I pressed through, with the grace of God. I met some amazing people on this new journey and gained a community, love, and unbearable support from my family. Happy 60 days today to me [red heart emoji]. If you are struggling. I’m here to help and talk about my journey.”

Fans of Fantasia recognize the now young adult as the little girl with braids and beads, cheering her mother on as she won season three of American Idol. The acclaimed actress also has two other children, Dallas, 12, and Keziah, 3. During an interview earlier this year with USA Today, the Color Purple star revealed that producers of the competition series advised her not to talk about being a teenage mom while on the show.

“They would come to me and say, ‘Hey, maybe don’t speak so much about your daughter,’ because I was young,” she reflected. “I wasn’t quite giving off the ‘Idol’ vibe.”

She continued, “I wanted people to see me,” adding while holding back tears, “Yes, I had a child at a young age. Yes, I dropped out of school. I’m here with my gift and my future looks bright – maybe you can’t see it, but I can.”

“American Idol” winner in 2004 Fantasia Barrino celebrates her daughter Zion’s fourth birthday while taking a spin in a Mad Tea Party teacup in Fantasyland at Walt Disney’s Magic Kingdom August 8, 2005 in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

The “When I See U” performer cites her family as motivation for her returning to school . In 2023, the singer enrolled at Central State University, a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in Wilberforce, Ohio. Although she had previously dropped out of high school as a teenager, she earned her GED in 2010.

“I want to break generational curses,” she explained at the time. “When it comes to my family, my girls, my children, I want to show them that no matter what she’s been through, you can always get back and go after it again, and that’s what I am doing.”
