Sexyy Red hit two career milestones on Tuesday (Aug. 13).

Her hit records, “ Get It Sexyy ,” and “ Pound Town ,” were certified gold and platinum, respectively, by the RIAA. However, before she crafted “Get It Sexyy,” the rapper confessed that postpartum depression was almost the reason why the record didn’t happen.

The mother of two took to Twitter candidly and explained, “The night ‘Get It Sexyy’ was made I was goin thru a lot. Just had my baby felt depressed and was goin thru postpartum.”

She detailed how her team would leave her in the studio in Miami “to write songs” while she “would just be in there crying thinkin about life.” It wasn’t until she asked to return to her hometown of St. Louis before things took a turn for the better.

Sexyy continued, “I finally said send me back to St. Louis so I can be around the ones I love and get back to me! Boom I’m in St. Louis, I invite all my sisters and friends to my studio session we had blunts, bottles, food allet. I came out wit GET IT SEXYY GET IT SEXYY.”

She described being around her family as a “ confidence booster for me,” adding, “We was so turnt; all my sadness was gone. I love my family period.”

“Get It Sexyy” peaked No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent 20 weeks on the chart. Additionally, it amassed over 128 million streams on Spotify alone since its March 2024 release.

Fans rallied behind Sexyy following her vulnerable moment.

One wrote , “You’re an inspiration Sexyy. I’m always going to be cheering for you.” Another tweeted , “Music has a way of healing even the toughest moments. sending love.” Someone else commented , “It’s amazing how creating can be such a healing process. You turned pain into power, and the result was a hit! Keep shining, Sexyy!”

This all comes ahead of Sexyy Red’s debut headlining tour. The 26-city trek kicks off on Aug. 22 and she’ll be joined by Hunxho, Loe Shimmy, and Blakeiana.
