Tyler, The Creator Alludes To “White Kid” Rapper Ian Mocking Hip-Hop, Gets Response

Tyler, The Creator’s love for Hip-Hop won’t allow him to remain silent when he finds others making a mockery of it, recently sharing that he takes issue with a “white kid” rapper who he believes offensively mimics others, particularly southern MCs.

During a chat with Maverick Carter on his Springhill platform Mavericks with Mav Carter , the Grammy winner described a rapper many believe to be viral artist Ian, saying he can’t except anyone mocking a culture he holds so dear.

“There’s this kid right now, this white kid, regular Caucasian man, and he’s like mocking Future and Gucci Mane, like, rap music. And people are like, ‘This sh*t hard!’” Tyler said. “It’s not even, like, satire, it’s like, ‘I’m just joking, I’m just mocking it.’ But I’m like, ‘No, no, no, you can’t do [that].’ And I hold rap music so close to my heart ’cause this sh*t changed my life and everyone’s life around me, and I’m a nerd about this sh*t.”

He was also sure to clarify that Ian being white isn’t the issue, as other white rappers have embraced the culture with respect and true talent.

“This is like weird and I’m looking at it and something about it don’t even sit well with me, in comparison to someone like a Mac Miller or Eminem who didn’t seem like they were mocking it; they had a genuine love for it.” Hear Tyler’s thoughts on the unnamed white rapper at the 20:27 mark below.

While Tyler didn’t drop a name, Bu Thiam, who signed Ian, also assumed he was speaking of his client, causing him to respond.
