Eminem’s Daughter Hailie Cries Listening To His New Songs About Addiction And Parenthood

The children of famous rappers are often mentioned in their music, which can either be a good or bad thing. Hailie Jade Scott, the eldest daughter of Eminem, recently revealed that she cried listening to some of his new songs, and has trouble watching the music videos due to him discussing his struggles with addiction and how they affected her.

Scott opened up on the latest episode of her podcast, Just A Little Shady . “The ‘Somebody Save Me’ music video is out, and I did watch it in entirety,” she said. “And I don’t think I can do it again. I definitely cried. Every time I hear it at all […] actually, Brittany put the little commercial snippet on today and I was like ‘Can you turn that down? Like are you trying to make me cry?'”

“Somebody Save Me” finds Slim Shady apologizing to his daughter for choosing drugs over his children while dealing with addiction. His other track, “Temporary,” is about him imagining a future where he is dead and encouraging Hailie to not grieve over him for too long and, instead, to live her life.

Hailie Jade Scott’s co-host Brittany Ednie claimed that she hadn’t watched the “Somebody Save Me” music video yet, but she did watch the “Temporary” video. “I don’t know when I’m going to be able to watch it,” she said. “I’m gonna have to brace myself for that one.” Hailie added, “Yeah, between that and ‘Temporary’ […] I can’t. I audibly sobbed, I think for both songs, but especially ‘Temporary.'”

Scott admitted that, despite how difficult it was for her to engage with the content, her parents did a good job shielding her from Eminem’s struggles with addiction while she was growing up. “Now, as an adult in hindsight, it’s so scary to think about,” she said. “And I think that’s why I get emotional so much. Just thinking that [Eminem dying] could have happened.”

Scott then turned her attention to the listeners and offered sympathy to anyone who had lost a loved one due to addiction. “I feel for you,” she said. “And that’s how I feel about it. It’s a great video and it’s fun to see clips of us from when we were younger like that. Even ‘Mockingbird.’ But I can’t listen to that anymore without crying. The older I get, the less I can listen to any of the songs.”

“Temporary” and “Somebody Save Me” featuring Jelly Roll both stem from Eminem’s latest album The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce) . “Mockingbird” was part of his 2004 album Encore . Watch the music videos above.
