Naomi Osaka made a fashionable return to the tennis court for Day 1 of the 2024 U.S. Open on Tuesday (Aug. 27). The postpartum, four-time Grand Slam champion stepped out wearing a babydoll-esque ensemble, decorated with at least 10 bows — her kicks included.

Osaka, who teamed up with Ambush creative director Yoon Ahn, wore two outfit variations: a neon green and white daytime look, featuring a billowing green skirt with white tulle, a cropped white Nike bomber jacket, green wristbands, a coordinated green visor and Beats headphones with a frilly white adornment and green bows. The ensemble is also available in black and white.

The back of her jacket displayed an oversized green bow, as well as small green bows on the back of her sneakers and the sides of her gym bag. Underneath that look, the 26-year-old revealed a lime green ruffled tennis dress adorned with a large white bow on the back.

“I definitely love to be involved in everything I do, whether it’s fashion or anything else,” Osaka told press after her victory. “But I feel like being able to be a part of my tennis outfits gives me, I would say, a different strength. Especially the US Open outfits, I feel like they are a little bit more flamboyant. When I was putting on my outfit today, I was, like, ah, I hope this isn’t too much!”

Speaking of working with Ahn, Osaka expressed, “Yoon is so nice. She accepted doing this project, and we’ve kind of been, like, talking about it for a few years now. So just to be able to wear it and see it come to life and see that people are excited to see it, yeah, it’s really cool.” Osaka, cited her Japanese background — specifically Harajuku culture — as her inspiration for the “Lolita-inspired” look.

Osaka’s Round 1 win at the 2024 U.S. Open is her first since giving birth to her daughter , Skai, in July 2023. At the time, she stepped away from tennis to focus on her daughter, but has now basked in her latest win with her child nearby.

“Last night my daughter didn’t want to go to sleep on her bed time, so I had to hold her for quite a while and I was like, ‘Oh wow, she really picked the perfect day not to go to sleep,’” Osaka told ESPN after her win.

“Moments like that are so precious to me, I only hope I can keep having more.”
