Stephen Curry has inked a brand new deal with his career-long team , the Golden State Warriors. The newly awarded Olympic gold medalist agreed to a new deal with the Warriors for $62.6 million, per ESPN . News of the deal arrived on Thursday (Aug. 29), with Curry’s Jeff Austin revealing that his time with the team would be extended through the 2026-27 NBA season. The reports reveals that with the new deal, No. 30 will become the third NBA player to pass the season $500 million threshold across their professional career earnings.

The NBA Champion had two years left on his contract worth $215.4 million that he signed with the squad in 2021. However, due to the league’s over-38 rule, the team couldn’t offer him anything more than a one-year deal during this offseason. The over-38 rule states that teams can’t offer a player who will be turning 38 throughout the new deal. Curry is currently 36 years old.

Steph Curry previously discussed his desire to remain with and retire as a Golden State Warrior. During a March 2023 interview with Andscape , Curry opened up about reaching “other side of the halfway point” of his career. He explained that his initial dream was to play as long as his dad but has since gained a new perspective on a seasoned career. The “Baby-faced Assassin” also opened up about speaking to athletes like Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers, who have had long careers.

“My real but fake goal was reaching my dad, who played 16 years in the league,” Curry said. “But now, you get to this point where you realize that at 16 years, he was 37. I remember the last three years of his career he had a back spasm problem in Milwaukee. I just remember all the work he had to do to play those last three years. Times have changed in terms of what your prime is.

“How I feel right now is not how I thought I’d feel at 35. That number sounds crazy, but in my head, I feel like I got a lot left. The work I put into this I still enjoy. Who knows how [the future] looks? I talked to Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers and other guys who have been on the other side of the halfway point. I know quarterbacking is different, but you can check yourself [mentally] into not fast-forwarding too far. They really did a good job of disciplining themselves for what is happening in real time. They’re 40 feeling like they can still play. I’m trying to stay in that mode. Thirty-five is a big milestone, but the next one is 40. The way I feel right now, who knows?”

And then just this past July the legendary shooter told the outlet that he has always intended to stay with the Warriors for his whole career, and that just may come true.

“I’ve always said I want to be a Warrior for life. At this stage in my career, I feel like that’s possible. And you can still be a competitive, it doesn’t mean you guaranteed the championship. It doesn’t mean winning. Winning is always a priority, but obviously you’re realistic. It doesn’t mean that it’s going to happen if you stay the course. You need to shake things up and keep reimagining what it looks like to evolve with what league is at right now, with where some of these talented teams are now,” he said.
