The late Fatman Scoop passed away just a few weeks ago and will receive a proper, legendary celebration of life . His family announced that they will host the tributary event at The Apollo Theater in Harlem.

The Freeman family announced his celebration of life via the late rapper’s Instagram account. “Forever Fatman Scoop” will occur on Thursday (Sept. 12) from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and tickets are available now on www.apollotheater.org . Both BET and Musicares will sponsor the event.

Scoop passed away at the end of August after collapsing during a show in Connecticut. He was transported to a nearby hospital, but was unfortunately pronounced dead shortly after arriving. Hamden, the city where he died, held a candlelight vigil this past Friday (Sept. 6) at Hamden Town Center Park, the place where he held his final performance.

Fatman Scoop’s family shared a statement confirming his passing via his Instagram account. “It is with profound sadness and very heavy hearts that we share news of the passing of the legendary and iconic FatMan Scoop,” they wrote. “Last night, the world lost a radiant soul, a beacon of light on the stage and in life.”

They properly recognized him as “the undisputed voice of the club,” but also highlighted his mettle as a performer, father, brother, uncle, and friend. “He was the laughter in our lives, a constant source of support, unwavering strength, and courage,” they wrote. “His music made us dance and embrace life with positivity. His joy was infectious and the generosity he extended to all will be deeply missed but never forgotten.”

Fatman Scoop is an indelible part of music for his vocal presence on songs like “Lose Control,” “It’s Like That,” and “Be Faithful.” He also received two Grammy nominations throughout his lengthy career.
