Shyne Says “Don’t Distort” His Relationship With Diddy Amid Arrest: “This Is Someone That Destroyed My Life”

Shyne Barrow is speaking out after former Bad Boy Records boss Sean “Diddy” Combs’ Monday (Sept. 16) arrest. Speaking at a news conference on Channel 5 Belize, the Leader of the Opposition in the Belize House of Representatives discussed his relationship with the accused sex trafficker.

“When I was an 18-year-old kid just wanting to do nothing other than make my mother proud and make Belize proud and do what all of us want to do, be recognized for our talent and take over the world,” explained Shyne. “I was defending him, and he turned around and called witnesses to testify against me. He contributed … he pretty much sent me to prison.”

He continued to detail, “That is the context by which you must always describe that relationship. Yes, I forgave. I moved on. But let us not pretend as if I was in Miami for Thanksgiving and Christmas.”

In 2022, the “Bad Boyz” performer shared his willingness to move forward from the infamous 1999 club shooting that landed him behind bars from 2001 to 2009, when he was released and deported. Combs, who the victim claimed to be the real shooter earlier this year, did not serve any prison time.

As he continued to elaborate on his and Combs’ relationship in the press conference, Shyne clarified the depth of their involvement with one another and his reasoning for attempting to keep it cordial.

“Let us not lose sight of what the cold, hard facts are. This was not someone who I vacationed with and who he and I enjoyed this great, intimate relationship of brotherhood. This is someone who destroyed my life and who I forgave and who I moved on and for the better interest of Belize, because he was in a position at that time to give scholarships and to maybe invest, I would not deny attempting to bring the investment to Belize and contribution to education to Belize.”

Shyne added, “But don’t distort it… This is someone that destroyed my life. But do I take any joy with what he is going through? Absolutely not. I am different than other people — no one needs to fail for me to succeed.”

This is not the first time Shyne has spoken against Combs’ alleged abusive and criminal behavior since his empire began to crumble in November 2024 after Cassie Ventura’s landmark lawsuit.

In May 2024, the 45-year-old admitted wanting nothing to do with his former label boss after video footage of Combs physically assaulting Ventura in 2016 became public.

“I vehemently denounce the repugnant behavior of Sean Diddy Combs captured on the video in which he is seen physically assaulting Mrs. Cassie Ventura-Fine,” explained Shyne. “There is no place for Violence against Women anywhere on the planet. As a father of a precious daughter, a global citizen, and the next Prime Minister of Belize I want absolutely nothing to do with people who engage in this pattern of diabolical behavior.”
