On Tuesday (Sept. 24), Connecticut’s Chief Medical Officer ruled that the late DJ and hypeman passed away due to “hypertensive and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease,” according to the Los Angeles Times .

Fatman Scoop, real name Isaac Freeman III, died on Aug. 30 while performing at a show in Hamden, Ct. The Grammy Award winner was playing a show at the Hamden Town Center Park when he suddenly collapsed on stage in the middle of his set.

After receiving CPR and being transported to a local hospital, Fatman Scoop was later pronounced dead that same day, prompting an outpouring of mourning and tributes from his family, friends, peers, and fans.

“It is with profound sadness and very heavy hearts that we share news of the passing of the legendary and iconic Fatman Scoop,” read a memorial post shared by the New York native’s family. “Last night, the world lost a radiant soul, a beacon of light on the stage and in life.”

“Fatman Scoop was not just a world class performer, he was a father, brother, uncle and a friend. He was the laughter in our lives, a constant source of support, unwavering strength, and courage.”

The tribute also touched on the party-rocker’s lovable personality and musical contributions. “Fatman Scoop was known to the world as the undisputed voice of the club. His music made us dance and embrace life with positivity. His joy was infectious and the generosity he extended to all will be deeply missed but never forgotten.”

In conclusion, it read, “Fatman Scoop’s legacy is of love and brightness, it will reside in our hearts and memories forever.”
