Jennifer Hudson To Honor Whitney Houston During American Music Awards 50th Anniversary Special Tribute

The American Music Awards have revealed the first round of performers set to take the stage during its 50th Anniversary Special, and the talent list features heavy-hitting vocalists across multiple genres. A highlight in the bill is Jennifer Hudson, who will pay tribute to Whitney Houston during the celebratory event.

The EGOT winner has previously performed in honor of Whitney Houston in 2010 at the BET Honors with The Voice applauding from the audience, and again in 2012 at the 54th Grammy Awards , the day after her tragic death. In both instances, Hudson performed, “I Will Always Love You.”

Whitney Houston’s legacy includes 22 AMA awards, making her one of the top AMA winners of all time.

Additional performers announced for the televised special include Mariah Carey, Chaka Khan, RAYE, Gladys Knight, Green Day, Kane Brown, and more. Additional performers and guest appearances will be announced soon.

According to a press statement, the American Music Awards 50th Anniversary Special will serve as a tribute to the past five decades, with new performances, artist interviews, legendary special guests, and exclusive never-before-seen footage from Dick Clark Production’s extensive archives, highlighting iconic moments that have defined the awards show and shaped pop culture.

The two-hour live broadcast airs on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2024, at 8:00-10:00 p.m. ET and 5:00-7:00 p.m. PT on the CBS Television Network. Additionally, the program airs live and on-demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on-demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the following day. The American Music Awards will return in May 2025.
