However, the late Emmy-nominated actor’s daughter Shannon took to social media hours later to reveal that she learned of her father’s death with the rest of the public.
“I am without words,” Shannon wrote in a caption as she danced with Amos to Luther Vandross’ “ Dance With My Father .”
“We are devastated and left with many questions about how this happened 45 days ago, learning about it through the media like so many of you,” she continued. “This should be a time of honoring and celebrating his life, yet we are struggling to navigate the wave of emotions and uncertainties surrounding his passing. Still, there is some semblance of peace in knowing my father is finally free.”
When news of Amos’ death broke, his son K.C. issued a solo statement that read, “It is with heartfelt sadness that I share with you that my father has transitioned. He was a man with the kindest heart and a heart of gold… and he was loved the world over. Many fans consider him their TV father . He lived a good life. His legacy will live on in his outstanding works in television and film as an actor. My father loved working as an actor throughout his entire life…. Most recently in ‘Suits LA’ playing himself and our documentary about his life journey as an actor, America’s Dad. He was my dad, my best friend, and my hero. Thank you for your prayers and support at this time.”
In recent years, K.C. and his father created TikTok videos together and even announced earlier this year that they were working on a docuseries about their respective careers and relationship. The Good Times patriarch told PEOPLE of the forthcoming project, “It covers my career, his career, our joint careers and it’s something that I think every father and son will want to see.”
With her reportedly finding out about her father’s death on social media, fans are accusing K.C. of foul play in the comments section on multiple Instagram posts.
“Awfully suspicious to be the sole family member responsible for his life and to report his death 45 days later….and not even family knows. Needed 45 days to cover up tracks and evidence?” one user wrote.
Another added, “I wonder if your gain is worth the pain you caused your family. Keeping your father away from other family members once he wasn’t able to make his own decisions [and] not see the rest of his family. That money will haunt you I fear.”
The 53-year-old has not responded to the allegations or his sister’s statement, but was arrested in July 2023 for threatening her life. Robert Florida, a spokesperson for the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, stated that Shannon believed K.C.’s bipolar disorder disorder led him to believe she had set him up to be killed, causing him to retaliate such a violent manner.
Damn shame! Sounds like my father son! Stole every dime of his money to make sure his other kids did not get anything. What the dumb mofo didn't know was I got my own money.
