Lil Durk, Universal Music Group, And More Named In FBG Duck Civil Suit

Legal action has been taken in the death of FBG Duck, legal name Carlton Weekly, looking to hold rapper Lil Durk, his record label Only The Family Entertainment (OTF), and more accountable for Weekly’s 2020 murder.

The Dinizulu Law Group filed the civil lawsuit on Wednesday (Oct. 9) in Cook County Circuit Court on behalf of Weekly’s estate and two bystanders Davon Brinson and Cashae Williams, who were wounded but survived the attack. The suit presents multiple counts, including wrongful death, civil conspiracy, negligence, and failure to render aid.

According to a press statement, the defendants are named Alamo Records, Sony Music Entertainment Inc., Universal Music Group Recordings Inc. (Interscope Records), and Empire Distribution Inc., who allegedly financed the OTF enterprise. The lawsuit describes how the record labels knowingly signed, promoted, and profited from artists with known gang affiliations.

Allegations against the label claim that the companies capitalized on the violent rivalry between OTF and FBG Duck, promoting “diss tracks” that taunted and threatened FBG Duck in a yearlong campaign, and continued to profit after his murder.

Additionally, the complaint alleges Lil Durk, King Von, and their associates engaged in a conspiracy to murder FBG Duck, placing a $100,000 bounty on his life, hammering down on OTF and its leadership using their platform to intimidate and eliminate rivals, and control the Chicago drill music scene, ultimately resulting in FBG Duck’s eventual killing.

The lawsuit also places blame on officials, accusing the City of Chicago of willful misconduct. The Dinizulu Law Group claims that police and emergency services failed to promptly aid FBG Duck, who laid alive for 17-plus minutes on the sidewalk in front of a Dolce & Gabbana retail location without medical treatment or being transported to a medical facility.

The suit additionally targets Dolce & Gabbana and its security firms, Picore Beristain Initiative Inc., and Top Tier Safety Inc. for negligence, asserting that while FBG Duck was standing in line outside their store, the defendants failed to take adequate safety measures despite knowing the area’s rising violence and fled the scene.

According to the Associated Press , in January, a federal jury convicted six alleged gang members of murder in the aid of racketeering and conspiracy to commit murder in the killing of FBG Duck: Charles Liggins, 32; Kenneth Roberson, 30; Christopher Thomas, 24; Marcus Smart, 25; Tacarlos Offerd, 32; and Ralph Turpin, 34. Liggins, Roberson, Thomas, Smart, and Offerd were also convicted of using a firearm in Weekly’s murder.
