Health is wealth and in this era, anything even remotely concerning is worth looking into. Serena Williams recently gave fans an update on her health after having to undergo neck surgery upon discovering a cyst that could have been cancerous.

The 43-year-old tennis legend found a lump in her neck this past May, had an MRI done, and learned that she did not need to get it removed if she didn’t want to because, at the time, it would not have any severe effects on her health. She opted not to have it removed, but the lump continued to grow over time.

Williams had more tests done, including a biopsy that revealed the lump tested negative for cancer, and was told by her doctors that she should have it removed because it could get infected or begin to leak. “So this is me removing it,” she said in a video she posted showing herself lying in her hospital bed. “I am feeling so grateful, and fortunate everything worked out, and most of all I’m healthy.” Watch below.

On X , Serena Williams expressed sadness at the fact she missed Glamour Magazine’s Woman Of The Year Awards and tennis legend Rafael Nadal’s retirement; however, reiterated the importance of prioritizing one’s health. “I am still recovering, but getting better,” she wrote. “Health always comes first.”
