Bath And Body Works is pulling one of its holiday items off of shelves before the season officially begins. The smell-good store has issued an apology and moved to stop selling the “Snowed In” candle after customers compared the design to a hate group’s signature garb .

The candle label featured a deep red background and what was intended to be a snowflake on the front with gold adornments between each spike. Instead, the white folds with cutouts appeared to some as members of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK). After the company resolved the issue, the Diet Prada Instagram account highlighted an image of the product.

Comments ranged from people agreeing with the critique saying, “It’s just a poorly executed design – that shouldn’t have been approved. just lazy. don’t think they were trying to be racially stirring, it’s just ugly,” to users calling the home good a “klandle.”

“At Bath & Body Works, we are committed to listening to our teams and customers, and committed to fixing any mistakes we make — even those that are unintentional like this one,”  shared the Ohio-founded brand in a statement to various outlets, including PEOPLE Magazine. “We apologize to anyone we’ve offended and are swiftly working to have this item removed and are evaluating our process going forward,” the statement concluded.

According to the label on an eBay listing , offering the now out-of-production candle for $160 or the best offer, “Snowed In” was a soy-wax blend luminary candle with creamy buttermint, sweet musk, and cozy vanilla flavor notes.

The KKK is listed as the oldest and most infamous American hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC). According to the nonprofit advocacy organization, as of 2023, there are 10 official, active KKK groups in the United States, with previously dormant Klan groups reactivating their presence and two new groups formed.
