Chris Brown Tributes One Direction’s Liam Payne Following Balcony Fall Death

Chris Brown has shown his respect to One Direction’s Liam Payne, who died on Wednesday evening (Oct. 16) from a third floor balcony fall at Argentina’s CasaSur Palermo Hotel. He was 31 years old.

Brown—who apparently was a friend of the 1D singer—took to his Instagram Story following the news to say: “Love you brother. Glad I [had the] pleasure of hanging with you several times and you were always humble and [a joyful] person [heart emoji]. Rest up my BRO.”

Breezy also included a video of Payne giving his own rendition of his 2019 Indigo single “ Under The Influence .” See below.

According to reports , Payne was visting the South American country to support his bandmate Niall Horan in concert. While there, he reportedly was also accompanied by his girlfriend, Kate, who decided to cut her trip short on Oct. 14.

Staying behind, it is reported that guests from the hotel witnessed “erratic” behavior from Payne—so much that someone called 911 to report an “aggressive” male in the hotel . Per the outlet, he was seen “smashing his laptop” and getting “carried back to his room” leading up to his death that reportedly happened around 5 PM.

The hotel then placed a red tent over his lifeless body, which fell near tables and chairs on the hotel’s patio. It hasn’t been made clear if his fall was accidental or voluntary.

In June 2021, Payne spoke with The Diary of a CEO where he opened up about his struggles with alcohol and prescription drugs, and having “severe” suicidal thoughts . “There is definitely some stuff I have never spoken about to do with it,” he admitted while showing a past picture of him bloated, which he credited to “a pills and booze phase.” He added, “It was really, really severe.”

The singer’s family also released a statement to BBC following his untimely death.

“We are heartbroken. Liam will forever live in our hearts and we’ll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul,” it reads. “We are supporting each other the best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this awful time.”

Liam was only 16 years old when he joined One Direction, one of the biggest boybands in the world . The quintet consisting of Horan, Payne, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik got their shot after appearing on The X Factor in 2010. They split up in 2015.
