Details have emerged as Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory has been released from federal custody into a halfway house. According to TMZ , the Detroit native was transferred to finish out his sentence under the conditions that he will be supervised for 5 years and participate in a substance abuse program which may include drug and alcohol testing.

Officially, Flenory was transferred on Tuesday (Oct. 15) from FCI Coleman Low to community confinement in Miami, with a projected release date of Jan. 27, 2026. In 2008, he was sentenced to 30 years for drug trafficking and money laundering.

“He used his time in prison to focus on personal growth and transformation, and now he has the opportunity to begin a new chapter,” detailed Flenory’s lawyer Brittany K. Barnett in a statement, per the Associated Press. He’s out, but millions more remain trapped inside — there’s still so much work to be done. We need to push for real change, for a justice system that recognizes the dignity and potential for redemption in every individual.”

The news was well-received with warm welcomes from Boosie Badazz, LeBron James, and Sexyy Redd, the latter of which offered to perform for the idolized kingpin.

According to the outlet, his brother Terry “Southwest T” Flenory continues to serve out his sentence on similar charges at a residential reentry center in Detroit with a release date of Aug. 17, 2025.

The legend of Big Meech, Southwest T, and their Black Mafia Family ambitions has been immortalized in Hip-Hop and existed primarily as street lore until 2021, when 50 Cent adapted the story for the BMF series starring Demetrius “Lil Meech” Flenory Jr.

“I’m blessed to be here because I never could imagine myself acting ever. This is a wonderful experience and I feel like this is what I’m placed on this earth to do,” detailed Lil Meech to VIBE ahead of the drama’s third season.

“It is still surreal to me because I get to live my family’s story and this is history. It has never been done before, and I’m actually being able to watch it while they’re living. It’s amazing to have people that’s proud of me to do something in life, [and] have my family proud of me.”
