A Vicksburg man who led authorities in two states on a high-speed chase Friday afternoon made an initial court appearance Monday in Vicksburg Municipal Court on unrelated charges.
According to information from Vicksburg Police Department (VPD), 18-year-old Jason Anderson Jr. appeared before Judge Angela Carpenter on a charge of armed robbery following a incident on June 30 in Vicksburg.
Anderson was taken into custody Friday afternoon following a high-speed chase that began in Tallulah and ended at the Interstate 20 exit to Halls Ferry Road in Vicksburg.
According to information from the Warren County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO), Anderson was taken into custody after his green Ford pickup was stopped on the off ramp by Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace and WCSO deputies, VPD officers and deputies with the Madison Parish Sheriff’s Office (MPSO).
WCSO officials said they were initially made aware of the chase by MPSO and informed Anderson – an unknown suspect at the time – was traveling at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. MPSO reported Anderson tossing what appeared to be contraband out of the windows of the pickup as he crossed the bridge into Mississippi. Once Anderson exited the bridge, the pursuit was picked up by units with VPD. WCSO said, when Anderson exited the interstate toward Halls Ferry Road, the three departments converged on his vehicle to make the arrest.
Once in custody, Anderson was identified, alerting authorities to an active warrant for him with VPD on charges of armed robbery.
WCSO said Anderson was transported to the Warren County Jail, before being transported to the Warren County Justice Court, where he waived extradition.
Monday, Anderson’s bond was set at $60,000 and he was bound over to the Warren County Grand Jury.
He also faces charges in Madison Parish of felony aggravated flight and aggravated assault with the use of a vehicle.
