Mountain Metro Transit proposing changes to fall bus service -- and wants you to weigh in!
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Mountain Metro Transit wants you to weigh in on potential changes to a few of its routes. Calling these changes “new service enhancements,” Mountain Metro is seeking public comment from now through Aug. 5 before it makes any final decisions. If approved, these proposed route adjustments would go into effect on Sunday, Sept. 29.
70 active wildfires cause US air quality concerns
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) - A blanket of grey haze covers the Grand Valley and shields the mountain view. Several Western states are under an air quality alert due to wildfires. The National Interagency Fire Center says about 70 wildfires are burning across the country. Those fires have burned over a million acres so far.

2.5 million Coloradans living amid abnormal dryness after 40% uptick in week
Colorado has experienced a noteworthy jump in dryness in recent days, shifting toward a drier situation in much of the Centennial State. According to the US Drought Monitor, 40.32 percent of the state is now 'abnormally dry' or worse as of July 16, with 11.07 percent of the state being in technical drought – 9.75 percent being in the less-serious 'moderate drought' phase (stage one of four). This compares to just 28.74 percent of the state being 'abnormally dry or worse' as reported on July 9, meaning a 40 percent week-over-week uptick.

US census takers to conduct test runs in Colorado 4 years before 2030 count
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Six places in the South and West will host practice runs for the next U.S. head count in 2030. The census helps determine political power and the distribution of federal funds. Residents of western Texas; tribal lands in Arizona; Colorado Springs, Colorado.; western North Carolina; Spartanburg, South Carolina; and Huntsville, Alabama, will be encouraged to fill out practice census questionnaires in the spring of 2026. Census Bureau officials said Monday that they hope the tests will help ensure that in 2030, they count the people who were missed in the 2020 census.
