If you love live music, take your pick.
You have big stars at CMAC and you have others who wouldn't mind taking the big stage but are happy to perform for you on Canandaigua Lake, downtown Canandaigua or in Victor parks.
Maybe it's something else you're after.
You can get outside for a walk, or stay inside — and enjoy the air conditioning — to pick up some literary tips for the stories you're secretly working on.
Here's what's happening this week.
1. Who’s up for tacos and other fun stuff in Victor?
Taco Tuesday at Dryer Road Park will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, at the park, 7405 Dryer Road, Victor. Mr. Heartache will perform at this free event. Come early for a mountain bike ride. Enjoy craft beers from Twin Elder Brewery in Victor, homemade ice cream from Molly V's in Victor, gourmet potatoes and mac-and-cheese from Potato-licious food truck and fresh tacos and tortillas from Bay Vista Taqueria.
2. Walk Grimes Glen in Naples
The Canandaigua Botanical Society invites plant lovers on a walk at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 17, at Grimes Glen Park, 4703 Vine St., Naples. Anthony Robarge, from Ontario County Parks, Kate Riley, Finger Lakes Land Trust, and Alaina Robarge, Ontario County Soil and Water Conservation District educator, will lead the walk up the gorge to the first waterfall. Bring footwear that you don't mind getting wet, bug repellent and a hiking pole.
3. Live@Five concert series at Canandaigua Lake
Natalie Poole will perform in concert as part of the Live @ Five Concert Series from 5 to 8 p.m. July 17 at Kershaw Park, 155 Lakeshore Drive, Canandaigua. This series of free concerts is planned on Wednesdays throughout the summer at the pavilion in the park. The event is sponsored by the Lakeshore Hospitality District, which includes Nolan’s on the Lake, COHO Pizza and Wine Bar, New York Kitchen, The Lake House on Canandaigua, Hotel Canandaigua and JP’s Tap Room. Bring blanket chairs, food and drinks.
4. Get to know Ontario County Chamber members
The Ontario County Chamber of Commerce is hosting its ONMixer from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at Dick's House of Sport at Eastview Mall in Victor. The event is open to Chamber members and prospective members and will include networking and door prizes. P.F. Chang’s will provide food and Casa Larga Vineyards will pour wine. 5. Cody Jinks, Blackberry Smoke at CMAC
Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. July 18 for Cody Jinks’ concert at Constellation Brands-Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center, 3355 Marvin Sands Drive. Blackberry Smoke is the special guest. Jinks is noted for country and western songs like "Hippies & Cowboys," "Loud and Heavy" and "Must Have Been the Whiskey," among others. 6. Young adult authors to visit Wood Library
Young adult authors Becky Albertalli and Jennifer Dugan will be visiting Wood Library from 6 to 8 p.m. July 18. The New York Times best-selling author Albertalli is noted for "Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda," "Yes No Maybe So," "Leah on the Offbeat," "What If It's Us" and "Imogen, Obviously." Dugan wrote "Hot Dog Girl," "Verona Comics," "Some Girls Do," "Melt With You" and "Coven." They will talk about writing, publishing and more. There will be raffles and time for autographs. 7. The Dean's List hits the stage in Victor
The Dean's List will be performing from 7 to 8:30 p.m. July 18 at Victor Municipal Park, 6680 Paparone Drive, Victor. The group performs classic and modern rock music in this all ages free show. Roc City Sammith food truck will be on hand. The concert is part of the Sid Partington Memorial Concert Series.
8. Downtown Canandaigua comes alive with art and music
The annual Canandaigua Art & Music Festival will feature three days’ worth of band performances; noon to 7 p.m. July 19, noon to 5 p.m. July 20 and noon to 5 p.m. July 21 in downtown Canandaigua. 9. Learn about Maple Avenue in Victor
Take a stroll through history on a walk along Maple Avenue with Victor Historian Babette Huber at 10 a.m. July 19. Meet at the Victor Farmington Library, 15 W. Main St., Victor. Learn about the people who helped create Victor, see their homes and how they influenced the development of the town. 10. Discover Canandaigua’s old-time watering holes
The Ontario County Historical Society Water Holes Walking Tour will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 19, starting at Ontario County Park at Main and Ontario streets. Participants will learn about historic Canandaigua watering holes and the temperance and women’s rights movements as well as Prohibition. Tours last roughly 90 minutes. 11. Dierks Bentley returns to CMAC
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, July 20, for Dierks Bentley at Constellation Brands-Marvin Sands Performing Arts Center, 3355 Marvin Sands Drive. Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives and Mae Estes are special guests. Bentley is known for country and western hits like "What Was I Thinkin'" and "Drunk on a Plane," among many others. 12. Model train display in Victor
A model train display with the Genesee & Ontario N-Gineers will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 20 at Victor Farmington Library, 15 W. Main St., Victor. Club members will be available to provide information about the trains, their club and other aspects of the model railroad hobby. 13. Train museum in Shortsville opens
The Lehigh Valley Railroad Historical Society Station Museum at 8 E. High St., Shortsville, will be open to the public from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, July 21. A large collection of historical artifacts from the Lehigh Valley Railroad will be on display at the museum. The gift shop will be open. Admission is free; donations are welcome.
