Jay Reeves, of Victoria, announced he is running for Minnesota’s 6th District Congressional seat.

Reeves was born and raised in the Twin Cities. He is the father to three daughters and three sons (one currently serving in the Army) and grandfather to two grandchildren. He is married to his high school sweetheart who has been an elementary school teacher for the past 25 years.

Reeves says he understands the struggles for hardworking Minnesotans and the importance of unions. Both of his parents belonged to unions. His dad was a truck driver and retired as a member of the Teamsters Local 120.

After high school Reeves tried to enlist in the Army but was turned away due to a shoulder injury. He then went to work for Yellow Freight and Georgia Pacific, both union jobs. He later went on to own his own business driving a truck for five years.

Reeves believes in serving his country and has leadership experience.

At the age of 31 he decided to try again to enlist in the Army and this time was accepted.

    While in the Army, Reeves:

    • Served in Iraq from 2009-2010.

    • Earned numerous awards and decorations for service and excellence.

    • Continued his education and earned a bachelor’s degree from TESU and master’s degree in health informatics from the University of Minnesota.

•Worked as lead lab advisor at the DoD Headquarters for Healthcare.

    • Managed multiple military hospital labs in Georgia, Virginia, Florida, Alabama, and Maryland.

    • Worked with all branches of the military at the Defense Health Agency in Falls Church, Virginia.

Reeves retired as a major in July 2023 after serving nearly 17 years in the Army.

    Reeves said he stands for:

    • All women’s rights (State and National Equal Rights Amendment).

    • LGBTQ rights and being a strong ally for equity and inclusion.

    • Stronger regulations for those caring for our youth in the behavioral health treatment facilities.

    • Finding bipartisan solutions to stop the fentanyl crisis.

    • Supporting educators, children, and schools.

    • Supporting veterans’ access to quality and timely health care and preventing food and housing insecurities.
