VICTORIA, Texas - Nine Victoria Independent School District (VISD) teachers attended a water conservation education and teacher professional development workshop in the past week.

The workshop was put together by the Victoria County Groundwater Conservation District, University of Houston-Victoria (UHV) and VISD.

The goal of the program is to give teachers the tools to educate students about water resource conservation. The training sessions were held at various locations, including Invista Wetlands, Riverside Park, The Clements Ranch, and UHV.

Hands-on activities were provided in the program such as collecting water samples, observing hydrologic processes, and comparing surface water and groundwater. Attendees were trained on classroom instruction methods using 3D watershed and aquifer models.

UHV faculty were also included and shown a presentation on artificial intelligence and machine learning in water resource management.
