Rain chances begin to ramp up today

Thursday's Weather Headline: Showers and thunderstorms arrive today but rain chances are looking pretty good from here on out. We graciously await 80s high temps with the rain next week! Read on for more details.

What we're tracking: The upper level low that swept a cold front throughout the country the last couple days is now entering the Northeast Coast bringing the front into Texas today. A weak surface low will develop today along the tail end of the front somewhere in North Texas spawning showers and thunderstorms as it swings an outflow boundary into South Texas today and brings the cold front into Central Texas. This front will stall north of us, but with lift still present along the stationary front's edge, showers will still be possible the next couple days as the front breaks down. Then over the weekend, an upper level low currently located over Washington entering Canada will slingshot all the way around the high pressure ridge located over the Rockies and park itself over the Central Plains on Sunday. This low will remain over the Central Plains for several days before it finally pushes northeast going into next weekend. With this low sitting over the Plains, multiple waves of scattered showers and thunderstorms will roll through the Crossroads and the state throughout the week. No severe weather is expected at this moment.

Next 24 hours: A line of showers and thunderstorms will approach the Crossroads this morning arriving in Gonzales and Lavaca counties around 10 a.m. and in Victoria somewhere around noon. No severe weather is expected although some stronger thundershowers may contain gusty winds up to 40 mph and pea size hail. After the line passes, shower activity should die off going into the later afternoon with spotty showers possibly developing again into the overnight hours past midnight. More scattered showers will develop tomorrow some time in the late morning going into the afternoon. Chances today are at 60% dropping to 40% tomorrow.

Extended forecast: Rain chances remain possible this weekend as the stalled front breaks down, but ramp up next week with the next low moving into the Plains. Rain and cloud cover will keep us in the 80s for a few days! See below for your 7 day Crossroads forecast!
