A parolee being sought for felony domestic violence and false imprisonment allegedly cut off his GPS ankle monitor before leading deputies on a pursuit through Victorville that ended in a crash this week, authorities said.

The encounter began about 8:25 a.m. Tuesday when a deputy spotted a 2017 Ford pickup truck that was being sought in connection with an ongoing domestic violence investigation driving at Seneca Road and La Paz Drive, San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department officials said.

"(The driver) failed to yield and sped off from deputies, leading them on a high-speed pursuit," the agency said in a written statement. "Irwin made a sudden turn at the intersection of Hesperia Road and Crestview Drive, lost control of the vehicle and collided with a business fence located at 14229 Crestview Drive."

The pickup truck flipped over in the crash and the suspect was taken into custody, officials said. It was then discovered that Irwin, who was on parole for a prior felony conviction, had removed his GPS ankle monitor.

The suspect, described as a 51-year-old Victorville man, was booked on suspicion of domestic violence, false imprisonment and violating parole, according to sheriff's officials and county booking records.

He was being held without bail pending legal proceedings.
