Victor Valley College officials on Thursday announced an open college board of trustee position for college district Area 3.

Interested residents in the area can file for candidacy until Aug. 9, college officials stated. Area 3 encompasses portions of Hesperia, Oak Hills, Phelan, Pinon Hills, and Wrightwood communities.

The Area 3 Board of Trustee position has been held by Vice President Sharon Pinkerton since December 2020.

Trustee Pinkerton announced during the July 9, board meeting that she would be stepping down to spend more time with her family.

In her announcement, she expressed gratitude, stating, "John and I would like to thank all of those who supported us with your votes and love and your encouragement over the past 12 years. This has been a great ride."

Sharon’s husband, former Trustee John Pinkerton, was first elected to the board in November 2012. He is a former counselor at Silverado High School.

Sharon also extended her best wishes to her successor, saying, "All the luck and good fortune and the blessings of God himself to continue the work that we all have begun here at VVC."

A governing board member election, including Area 3, will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2024, for the following offices:

    • Member of the VVC Governing Board, Area 1 (four-year term)
    • Member of the VVC Governing Board, Area 3 (four-year term)
    • Member of the VVC Governing Board, Area 5 (two-year term)

Official candidate filing documents for eligible candidates desiring to file for the above elective offices may be obtained from the San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters, 777 E. Rialto Avenue, San Bernardino

The filing window opened on July 15 and will remain open until 5 p.m. Aug. 9
