Student makes online threats against classmates at middle school in Helendale, police say

Deputies carried out a search warrant at the home of a 13-year-old boy this week after he issued online threats against classmates at ACE Charter & Riverview Middle School in Helendale, authorities said.

Officials first learned of the threats, made via social media, shortly before 1:30 p.m. Thursday, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

"According to school staff, they became aware of a 13-year-old male student allegedly making threats towards students at the school on social media sites," the agency said in a written statement . "Deputies were told there were guns in the background in some of the posts.

Deputies arrived at the boy's home about 8:30 p.m. with a search warrant.

No weapons were found, according to the sheriff's department statement. "Through the investigation, deputies learned the juvenile used photos pulled off the internet as a background for his posts."

It was determined there was "no credible threat" to students or faculty, officials said. No further details were available.

A similar situation unfolded Thursday in Big Bear Lake, where deputies investigated social media threats against Big Bear Middle School, sheriff's officials said.

A student had made a post threatening to "bring a bomb" to school, according to a sheriff's department department. The threat was ultimately deemed unfounded.
