SWAT team arrests barricaded suspect after body found at Palmdale home

A sheriff's SWAT team arrested a barricaded suspect in Palmdale on Saturday afternoon, where a man was found dead earlier in the day, authorities said.

The incident began about 10:35 a.m. in the 37400 block of Oxford Drive, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department .

A man was found dead as deputies conducted a welfare check, authorities said.

As they day went on, deputies from the Sheriff's Palmdale Station reported that a possible suspect was barricaded inside the home, officials said. A sheriff's department Special Enforcement Bureau team, or SWAT team, was summoned to take over the scene.

"SEB personnel will assume tactical command and Crisis Negotiation Team is attempting to make contact with the suspect to bring this to a peaceful conclusion," the agency said in a written statement .

Nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution as the apparent standoff continued into Saturday evening.

Sheriff's officials announced shortly before 9:30 p.m. that the suspect had been apprehended and the incident had concluded.

"The area was deemed safe, and all neighborhood evacuees were allowed to return to their homes," according to the statement.

No further details were released.
