There were 60,209 votes cast this week in the race for the Victorville Chevrolet High School Athlete of the Week poll of the school year.

Hesperia’s Zamar Malveaux ended with 53.2% of total votes cast by Daily Press readers.

The star running back received 32,032 votes, beating out 10 other high school athletes from across the High Desert.

To earn a spot on this week’s ballot, Malveaux was just about unstoppable running the ball against Silverado on Sept. 19.

Hesperia lost 27-24, but Malveaux’s effort couldn’t go unnoticed. The junior ended the night with 26 carries for 256 yards and two touchdowns.

In the voting, Malveux beat out Oak Hills volleyball player Elle Nifo, who ended with 37.19% at 22,393 total votes.

The nominees were selected based on performances between Sept. 16 to 21.

Nominations are based on information available to the Daily Press. All high school varsity players from the High Desert can be considered for the ballot.

Nominations must be received for consideration by Sunday morning following that week's games. Anyone can nominate an Athlete of the Week for every varsity sport.
