Two arrested in Paducah copper theft investigation
Two people were arrested Wednesday in connection with a Paducah theft investigation. On Tuesday the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office went to a business in the 4000 block of Clarks River Road where a suspect had driven up to the property on a modified go-kart and cut multiple copper wires from a breaker box. The box was damaged during the theft.
Local officials hope latest truancy bill increases attendance in Kentucky schools
PADUCAH — Kentucky’s latest truancy law requires that schools alert the county attorney’s office when a student has 15 or more unexcused absences. House Bill 611, which took effect this month, is meant to combat a rise in truancy throughout the state — where close to 30% of students were absent for 10% or more of the 2022-2023 school year.

Multiple Infrastructure Projects on the horizon in Metropolis. (WMOK) Metropolis, IL – Metropolis Mayor, Don Canada told WMOK during a Coffee Break earlier this month that multiple projects that are part of an update on the current Long-Term Control Plan will be beginning soon. These projects are part of a long-term plan to reduce sewer overflows to the Ohio River, as required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency.

Following a strong fall and spring, Southern Illinois University Carbondale is enjoying increasing enrollment this summer, up about 3.4% from last year. “This great news is the result of the tireless efforts of many Salukis and the strategic planning outlined in Imagine 2030,” said Chancellor Austin A. Lane. “In recent years, we have improved access, removed barriers and promoted what SIU Carbondale has to offer.
