Summer is far from over, more triple-digit heat possible by late week
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) - This week is going to go from seasonably warm to unseasonably hot with high fire danger and, at times, poor air quality. An Air Quality Alert is in effect until 9 AM Monday for Mesa County and Garfield County in Western Colorado. This includes areas around Grand Junction, Fruita, Glade Park, Palisade, Clifton, Orchard Mesa, the Redlands, Parachute, Rifle, and Glenwood Springs. The Kings Canyon Fire burning on the Uncompahgre Plateau west of Glade Park and about 15 miles southwest of Fruita is billowing smoke. That smoke is expected to settle into the Grand Valley tonight. Air quality could become unhealthy, and it could be especially dangerous for those who have respiratory illness or heart disease. It’s best to avoid being outside in the smoke. If you have to go outside, limit your time outdoors and don’t do anything to strenuous.
