2024 Arizona football season countdown: 47 days to kickoff
A LOOK BACK — NO. 47 STEVE BOADWAY. With it being the 47th day until kickoff between the Lobos and Wildcats, the best player to wear No. 47 for Arizona is linebacker Steve Boadway, who played with the Wildcats from 1981-84. Boadway led the Pac-10 with 13 sacks in 1984, earning first-team all-conference honors. At the end of that year, he knocked the ball loose from Arizona State QB Jeff Van Raaphorst, resulting in a late-game interception in Arizona’s 16-10 win. Undrafted, he spent parts of three seasons in the NFL with the Denver Broncos and Detroit Lions from 1985 to 1988. He also served as linebackers coach at UC Santa Barabara. Boadway is now a longtime educator and administrator in Flagstaff. He has been the principal at Sinagua Middle School in Flagstaff. He has taught German at the middle-school level there. Presently, he is in his fourth season as Flagstaff High School’s girls tennis coach while also being a physical education and health instructor at the school. Flagstaff girls tennis has qualified tor the state playoffs the last three seasons. In the past two years, the Eagles won the region championship.

Mesa's HandleBar Diner has closed. Here's what we know
HandleBar Diner, the Valentine-style diner located in the Mesa master-planned community of Eastmark, has closed. The diner’s operators took to social media on Friday, sharing that the building's owners had “chosen to close the diner effective immediately” and called the closure “quite a surprise to Chasie and Kevin,” referring to Chasie Womack, who currently runs the diner, and her partner Kevin McMillen.

Evacuations lifted following hazardous materials incident in Coolidge
COOLIDGE, AZ (AZFamily) — Evacuation and shelter-in-place orders have been lifted following a hazardous materials situation in Coolidge. A City of Coolidge spokesperson tells Arizona’s Family that the incident happened at the Heritage Environmental Services, located about seven miles south of downtown Coolidge. Heritage is an Indiana-based company that focuses on eliminating industrial waste, although Coolidge officials have not provided details about the specific incident.

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — The four Safeway stores in the Prescott area and the three stores in Flagstaff will be sold to C&S Wholesale Grocers if a proposed $24.6 billion merger between Kroger, owner of the Fry’s Food supermarkets, and Albertsons, owner of the Safeway supermarket chain since 2015, is approved by the Federal Trade Commission.
