Naples man sentenced in 2022 DUI manslaughter case
FORT MYERS, Fla. — On Friday, a Naples man was sentenced to six years in prison for DUI manslaughter after a crash killed one and injured three others in Bonita Springs. James Nelligan, 39, reportedly crashed on Feb. 11, 2022, killing a 49-year-old New Jersey woman and leaving three others with minor injuries.

July 19, 2024 - St. Petersburg-based Beachside Hospitality, which owns several Crabby’s restaurants throughout the state, is under contract to buy four Anna Maria Island concepts. The group plans to acquire Sandbar Seafood and Spirits, Beach House Waterfront Restaurant, Mar Vista Dockside Restaurant & Pub and Anna Maria Bake House from Chiles Hospitality. While Beachside operates 13 establishments in eight Florida cities, the acquisition of Chiles marks its first foray into Manatee County.

Sanibel City Council Sets Proposed Maximum Operating Millage Rate
City Council unanimously approved the proposed operating millage rate for the 2024 tax year at 2.5 mills, which is no increase from last year. The rolled-back rate for the City of Sanibel 2024 tax year is 2.4848 mills. The proposed aggregate millage rate is 2.6369 mills. The millage levy for the sewer voted debt service is 0.0169 mills, and the millage levy for the Recreation Center voted debt service is 0.1200 mills.
