VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Calling her dedication to the community boundless, officials in Knox County have awarded the 2024 Spirit of ’76 honor to Ellen Harper.

The Spirit of ’76 award will be presented to harper immediately following this year’s Vincennes July 4th Parade, for which Harper will be the Grand Marshal.

“I have worked with Ellen in various capacities since taking office,” Mayor Joe Yochum said. “She is always willing to jump in to help. Her dedication to this community is boundless.”

Knox County Chamber of Commerce President Jamie Neal was one of the individuals who nominated Harper for the honor.

“Ellen embodies everything this award stands for through her exceptional dedication, tireless efforts, and transformative impact on the Vincennes community,” Neal wrote in a nomination letter. “Ellen led the charge in transforming our dated Main Street into the heart of Vincennes, a project that stands as a testament to her dedication and hard work.”

After the parade the city will present Harper with the award during a ceremony in the dining room of the Harmony Club at 111 N. 2nd Street. The public is invited to attend.
