VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A new Design and Innovation Training Studio in Vincennes will open up a pathway for students into robotics, AI, and advanced manufacturing.

Vincennes University’s President Dr. Chuck Johnson said this studio will also improve the quality of education in our area.

“This is one way that we are going to make sure that we have educators who are well prepared to be able to do the training and education that will make these studios really valuable for our community,” Johnson said.

The studio includes 3-D printers, programmable robots, and multiple technology-based games for students of all ages that Johnson said will help future educators be able to teach these skills.

“Preparing our students so they will be able to be STEM educators as well as special education, elementary education, and math and science education programs will all benefit from having this as an initial skill set,” Johnson said.

Johnson said in time, this will help local schools produce students that are ready for whatever the future brings.

“We are able to help them produce graduates who are prepared for the world of higher education as well as preparing them for the world of careers that will be followed after they pursue their high school or college education,” he said.

Johnson hopes that this may also instill a love for education.

“We are opening their eyes to the future of how they will see their careers develop and what skills they will want to develop along the way,” Johnson added.

According to Johnson, since STEM careers are projected to grow twice as quickly as other occupations, now is the perfect time to add this studio to their curriculum.
