A round-up of all things Vinton and Jackson counties…

Per Christine Aller Barclay, the Vinton County Dog Shelter has six dogs in outside cages that it would to adopt out to good homes. She requests bags of ice to help the dogs deal with top temperatures that have been in the mid to upper 90s this past week.

For more information about how to adopt these animals, contact (740) 596-9285.

Speaking of Vinton County, the county commission has applied for a $430,600 Community Block Development Grant to help the Village of Hamden make repairs to its Wastewater Treatment Plant, which is at 15 years old.

In other news, the deadline is quickly approaching to sign up for the Vinton County High School Athletic Boosters’ Fourth of July Little Miss and Miss Vinton County pageants.

Big Miss Applications are due at our Mandatory MVC Meeting on Monday, June 24 at 6PM at VCHS. $25 Sponsor fee due and pictures will be taken for paper. Must be entering grades 9-11.

Little Miss applications are due at our Mandatory LMVC Meeting on Wednesday, June 26 at 6PM at VCHS. $15 application fee is due and pictures will be taken for the paper. Must be entering the first grade at a Vinton County Elementary or first year being retained in kindergarten.

Pageant folks want to make sure anyone eligible to run has a fair chance! Just send Miss Vinton County a message on FB and we will respond ASAP.

The Little Miss Pageant will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 7 in the VCHS Cafetorium.
