Opening round of the USA softball girls’ class a 12u & 16u national championship

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — In the USA softball girls’ Class a 12u & 16u National Championship, the Phoenix from Vinton, Virginia took on the lady Lightning Gold from Raleigh, North Carolina.

In the 6th inning, Phoenix’s Zoe Sartin hit one into the gap and brought Macy Akers home from third as Virginia extended its lead 5-0.

In the bottom of the sixth, Hannah Parker got a big strike that went over the net on the field for an automatic double that got LLG rolling. With a runner on third, a bad pitch went behind home plate that allowed the pinch runner Rachel Byrd to sprint home to put the lightning gold on the board.

The action continues on Thursday.
