Domestic violence agencies want guns taken from abusers
Agencies serving victims of domestic violence say they will continue to push for passage of state legislation that would get guns out of the hands of abusers. Representatives of Legal Aid Society, Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence and The Network say they will ramp up efforts to get lawmakers to support the measure after the legislation failed to make it through the Illinois General Assembly this spring.

Over the summer, superintendent of schools Sharon Williams said the district’s big focus has been construction and maintenance projects. These include renovations to three floors of bathrooms at Rock Island High School and updates to Rocky Stadium and a Frances Willard Elementary School fire alarm system.

St. Ambrose to become owner of Mount Mercy
Davenport, IA- Officials say St. Ambrose University in Davenport will become the non-profit owner of the Mount Mercy University campus in Cedar Rapids. Radio Iowa reports that the residents of the two Catholic universities held a news conference to discuss the merger and sign the agreement. Federal officials and the commission that reviews US college and university academic standards have to review the merger plan and approve it.

DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - The Group Obstetrics & Gynecology Specialists, P.C. announced an expansion on Wednesday at their current location on the corner of Eastern and 53rd. The addition and some interior renovations will provide approximately 7,300 square feet of additional space that includes thirteen new examination rooms, four new procedure rooms, two patient education rooms, and a new conference room, a media release said.

Abortion providers in Chicago and Illinois are expecting a surge of out-of-state patients after Iowa’s six-week abortion ban went into effect Monday. The state became the fourth in the U.S. to enact a ban on abortions after six weeks, which is before most people know they’re pregnant. The Iowa Supreme Court upheld the ban, which was passed last year by the Republican-controlled statehouse.
