July 15th Storms Set New Record For Most Tornadoes in One Day
We all knew as it was happening that the storms on July 15th were not your typical, everyday storm system. The derecho brought not one, not two, but THIRTY ONE tornadoes in the NWS Chicago office’s coverage area, which is a new record. Don’t miss out on all the fun in Silvis on Saturday, August 3, 2024, during Silvis Summer Fest from 8 AM to 8 PM. The morning starts with a pancake breakfast fundraiser from 8 AM to noon hosted by the Silvis Fire Department and the Silvis Lions Club for $8. The car show will happen, rain or shine, from 9 AM to 3 PM, gates open at 7:30 AM, and registration is from 9 to 11 AM. There will be awards for Best of Show, Mayor’s Choice, Chief’s Choice, Kid’s Choice, and Top 15. The registration cost is $15. Admission is free and sponsored by The Triangle Inn. A kid’s zone is open from 10 AM to 4 PM and includes outdoor games hosted by the First Baptist Church of Silvis, a bounce zone with bounce houses, and a backpack giveaway with school supplies given to the first 200 children. Food and craft vendors will be onsite from 10 AM to 8 PM. Rabbit Hole will provide danceable rock-in-roll music to end the night from 5 to 8 PM.
Longtime Downtown Mendota Bar And Grill Is Closing
A staple of downtown Mendota for more than 3 decades is soon to be closing its doors. Owners Dave and Joanne McNally announced that they will be closing Main Street Station Bar & Grill after Saturday, August 24th. The announcement says “A lot of thought has been put into this decision and it was not an easy choice to make”. The owners say they're looking forward to having a chance to travel and enjoy time with their family.
