West Central High School’s Addie Seitz Leads Illinois to a Win in the Senior League Softball Regionals
Following an all-state softball season in the spring, West Central High School senior-to-be Addie Seitz is playing summer softball for an Illinois team that is currently participating in the Little League Senior Softball Central Region Tournament in Lexington, Kentucky. Seitz’s team is currently (2-0) and is tied with a team from Ohio as the only undefeated teams left in the 8-team tournament. She pitched a 4-inning perfect game against Kentucky on Wednesday, winning 16-0. Seitz struck out 7 of the 12 batters she faced. Just as she did during the high school season in the spring, Addie helped herself at the plate, as well, going 2-3 with 5 rbis and blasting a home run. Illinois and Ohio meet today for a chance to play for the regional championship game on Friday.
IL PORK PRODUCERS ASSOCIATION IS OFFERING TWO NEW PROGRAMS ON EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
(BLOOMINGTON) The Illinois Pork Producers Association is promoting two new programs focused on educational development for the swine industry’s next generation. One of the new initiatives is the Illinois Pork Industry Group (PIG) program, available at Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield, for students interested in agriculture and pork industry, regardless of their major. The IPPA covers the cost of the 6-week course and provides a $300 scholarship to those who complete it. While this program will start at LLCC this fall, the goal is to offer it at other community colleges in the future. The deadline to apply for the PIG program is September 1st with sessions beginning October 10th. The other program, the School Swine Project Grant, is being offered to universities, colleges, and high schools in Illinois with grants up to $2,000 for projects focused on the betterment of the pork industry. The funds could be utilized for campus barn improvements, student research projects, and more. The deadline to apply for the SSPG program funds in September 30th. Henry’s Service Center Finds Temporary Home
A local equipment dealer is attempting to return to business after a fire ravaged their building in mid-June. Henry’s Service Center representatives posted to the business’ Facebook Page on Tuesday to let customers know they are in operations at a new location. Henry’s has temporarily moved to the front of the old Production Press building at 316 East College Avenue. The entrance to Henry’s is just off of the north side of the building. Jacksonville Speedway Hosting Wilhite Memorial Service Saturday, Looking Forward to August for Race Resumption
The Jacksonville Speedway will be honoring a late friend of the track this weekend. 65-year old Ralph Wilhite was tragically killed in an accident at the Speedway on June 28th.
