VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A woman has been displaced by a townhouse fire in Virginia Beach, according to the Virginia Beach Fire Department (VBFD).

Wednesday around 9:37 a.m., crews were called to the 5600 block of Old Guard Crescent for the report of a structure fire. When firefighters arrived on the scene they found heavy smoke coming from the townhouse. VBFD says the fire was under control by 10:08 a.m.

Once crews were able to get the woman out of the townhome, she was assessed and treated for smoke inhalation. The woman was then taken to Sentara Norfolk General to be treated for her injuries.

The woman’s cat is currently in the care of animal control.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
