Lauren Alaina has revealed that her dad, J.J. Suddeth, passed away on Tuesday, July 23. She posted the sad news on Instagram, writing, “We lost my daddy last night, and I really don’t have words yet,” adding, “I am going home to be with family.”

Alaina was set to appear at two of Jason Aldean’s tour stops on Thursday, July 25 in Savannah, and Friday, July 26 in Virginia Beach. However, she has since canceled those appearances. She also canceled a set at Carowinds Summer Music Festival in Charlotte, North Carolina on Saturday, July 27.

She had last posted about her dad on Father’s Day this year, sharing sweet photos of them together on her wedding day. Alaina did not include any other details, sharing simply that she would be with her family during this time.

Fans showed their support in the comments of her post, sharing their own stories of loss, heartbreaks, and words of love and prayers for Alaina and her family. Previously, Alaina had opened up about losing her stepfather, Sam Ranker, to cancer in 2018.

Alaina was the runner-up on the tenth season of American Idol.

Lauren Alaina Breaks Sad News That Her Dad Has Passed Away

Lauren Alaina has been open in the past about her dad’s struggles. In a 2017 interview, she was candid with Parade about her parents’ breakup and her dad’s alcoholism.

“My dad is a recovering alcoholic and when my mom asked for a divorce, he checked himself into rehab,” she said at the time. “They didn’t end up working it out, which is unfortunate, but it’s a blessing in disguise because my dad is sober and happy and a great man now and has grown so much because Mom asked for that divorce.”

She shared that she’s incredibly close with both of her parents, but has often paid tribute to her dad in Instagram posts. Alaina wrote the song “Doin’ Fine” as an autobiographical look at her childhood and family, and this year wrote the song “My Old Man” for her and her dad to dance to during her wedding. She posted the song alongside clips from her wedding day, which feature her dad in tears as he sees her in her dress and hugs her.
