I recently had the pleasure of dining at New Tosokjib, a charming hole-in-the-wall Korean restaurant that has managed to upgrade its space without losing its unique charm. My first order was their signature Bossam. The pork skin was unsinged, and the white cut meat was thick and carried a subtle pork taste.
I also tried the ginseng chicken soup, which was a bit plain and lacked the ginseng flavor I was expecting. However, the Galchi Gui and seafood pancake were absolutely fabulous! The golden crisp skin of the Galchi Gui was a delight, and the seafood pancake was loaded with choice bits of squid, octopus, and crab. Their banchan game is top-notch, and I could easily make a meal out of that alone.
Despite being a smaller establishment with limited tables, the wait is definitely worth it. The large shareable soups are a favorite among my friends and me. The new location doesn't serve hot water, only plastic bottled water, and the gas burners are portable gel flames. But don't let that deter you, the food is excellent. Just be prepared for the usual older Korean lady service, which can come off as a bit rude or fake nice. But trust me, the food makes up for it!
