Mesabi Range Foundation awarded grant

The Mesabi Range Foundation was recently awarded a $2,000 grant from Great River Energy to support the Foundation’s effort to expand the promotion of scholarship opportunities, provide continued program support for the Foundation Office, and help support creative initiatives for the students attending the Mesabi Range campuses.

Great River Energy is a not-for-profit wholesale electric power cooperative that provides electricity to 27 member-owner distribution cooperatives. Together, their systems provide power to approximately two-thirds of Minnesota geographically and parts of Wisconsin, serving 700,000 families, farms and businesses.

“The Foundation is pleased to receive this grant award from Great River Energy, and will put it toward continuing the mission of our Foundation. in promoting extraordinary educational opportunities for the students, faculty, staff, and administration of the Mesabi Range campuses,” said Sue Medure, President of the Mesabi Range College Foundation. “Our mission is to assist Mesabi Range Campuses in promoting extraordinary education of the highest value and affordable opportunities for those in our communities, provide qualified students financial support through our scholarships made possible by our generous donors, and assist the college campuses in various projects that enhance the college and offer support to partners who meet the workforce and community needs. We are proud to offer 50 scholarship programs and over 70 scholarships for students, and assist with projects on our campuses.”

The Foundation, through its endowment, individual donors and local organizations, provides over $100,000 each year in scholarship opportunities to students attending the Mesabi Range campuses. In addition, the Foundation assists with creative initiatives on the Mesabi Range campuses, including the Student Food Pantry, Student Welcome Back BBQ’s, mini-grants for books and supplies, and scholarship support for students.
