How do you pronounce the seventh day of the week?

The Boomer Insight lists 18 words that Southerners pronounce differently than those in other parts of the US. One word that did not make the list is some Virginians' pronunciation of the Sabbath Day.

When I sing Chicago's hit Saturday in the Park, I have no trouble saying Sat-ur-day. When I talk, however, it's different. Recently, my youngest grandson told me I sound like I am saying Sad-ur-dee or Sard-dy when referencing the seventh day of the week.

Different pronunciations

My grandchild keeps telling me, "Grandma, it's Sat-ur-day," but I guess old habits die hard. I never paid attention, but I began listening recently and realized other baby boomers in Virginia sound as if they are saying Sad-ur-dee or Sard-dy.

Julian Miguel says that in Britain, the word is pronounced Sat-ur-day, and in America, it's common to hear Sad-ur-day, so everyone has their way of saying the seventh day of the week.
