Baby Boomers were taught Biblical truth

When I was a young girl attending Protestant churches in Southwest Virginia, Baby Boomers did not confuse what was taught in church with cartoons or comic books. The same teaching on Jesus that was in the Baptist church I belonged to was what I heard in other Protestant churches.

When I was teaching Christian education in 2006, a child asked me if Jesus could cast a web like Spiderman, and I realized there was a disconnect. My generation did not confuse what was taught in church with comic book heroes or cartoons.

Should things be watered down for today's youth

We were taught Jesus is the Son of God, but today, ministries teach that Jesus is the ultimate superhero. I spoke with several former Sunday School and Christian education teachers in Virginia who gave their opinions.

Sandy G. and Earl P. agreed that Jesus should not be reduced to the status of a comic book character as this denigrates and downgrades who the Bible says He is. Lisa J says Jesus is the ultimate super hero. Joanne C. says the fact that it is being done suggests that this might be the only way to reach today's children.
