Williamsburg is famous for history and hauntings

Colonial Williamsburg has been famous for homes, hotels, and taverns since the nation's early days. The area also contains folklore, legends, myths, ghost stories, and haunted locations, including the Peyton Randolph House, a popular tourist destination.

Only in Virginia reports that ghost stories about the Virginia house began as early as 1824 when French General Marquis de Lafayette stated the following.

"Upon my arrival, as I entered through the foyer, I felt a hand on my shoulder. It nudged me as if intending to keep me from entering. I quickly turned, but found no one there."

There have been reports of ghostly figures inside the house and disembodied voices. I have spoken with several Williamsburg residents who say they have not experienced any evidence of hauntings. Perhaps the spirits at Peyton Randolph House only make themselves known to certain people.
