Virginia children should not touch deer

The Virginia Department of Wildlife answers many questions about deer in the state on its website. The white tail deer is most prominent in the Commonwealth. They are beautiful to look at, but children need to know they are unpredictable wild animals that may cause harm.

WDBJ7 reports that a ten-year-old California girl named Mila was thrown into the air by a deer that another child had kicked. She suffered a concussion, and a bite was found on her arm. Mila's grandmother said deer are beautiful to look at from a distance, and there is an additional reason why you should not touch them besides fear of being attacked.

Wildlife Start says it is important not to touch a baby deer because if the mother smells the human scent, she will stay away from her child. Children in Virginia need to know that not touching deer is for their safety and that of the animal.
