    Senior Hikers should take precautions

Some people, myself included, enjoy hiking alone, but there are risks that the recent death of a Virginia senior has highlighted. On Friday, Mass Live News reported that on Thursday, a hiker found the body of a 72-year-old Virginian on the Gulfside Trail.

The body was about a half mile below the summit of Mount Washington in New Hampshire. The New Hampshire Department of Fish and Game said he possibly rode the train up to the summit on Wednesday, Aug. 21, and died while hiking back down.

It appears the man died of exposure, but no autopsy report has confirmed this. The name of the victim was not released because the family had not been notified. Anyone who may have seen him is asked to contact the New Hampshire State Police at 603-846-3333 or email Lt. Mark Ober.

I have met people with power boats who go 20 miles offshore to fish alone. You must have a death wish to do so. Please do not respond that you can radio for help, you may not be capable of doing so. Not going to work if you go over side in a swell.
