    Bowl-in-the box cereal

Baby boomers in Virginia enjoyed eating cereal directly from the mini boxes. You opened the container, which turned into a bowl-in-the-box. You poured in the milk, grabbed a spoon, and ate.

Mashed reveals the Kellogg Company was the first to utilize Bowl-in-the-box. It was easy to eat breakfast before school and enjoy Saturday cartoons. One benefit is there were no dirty bowls to wash-only the spoons.

    Make your own Bowl-in-the-box

Perhaps you forgot about this unique way of eating cereal as you grew into adulthood, or you did not notice that it is no longer available. According to Yahoo, Bowl-in-the-box debuted in 1942 and was phased out in 1975. Kellogg returned this feature in 1989, and it was discontinued again, but the date is unknown.

Today, single-serving cereal is sold in round plastic containers, but it's not the same, which is why some nostalgic boomers cut the small cereal boxes to make their own version of Bowl-in-the-box.
