According to CAMH, those dealing with addiction may allow alcohol to decide for them, so they drive while impaired. In Virginia, efforts are being made to stop those driving drunk on roads and highways.

Virginians have been told to have a designated driver or call a friend or rideshare if they are going out and will be drinking. ABC 8 News reports that Virginia law enforcement is cracking down on drunk drivers and emphasizing safe driving this Labor Day.

Last year, 73 drivers were arrested, and 14 lost their lives over the holiday weekend. Governor Glenn Youngkin enhanced a campaign in 2024: Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over to deter intoxicated individuals from getting behind the wheel.
